Battle of Korem
1909 battle in the Ethiopian Empire
The Battle of Korem was fought on 9 October 1909 on the Wäfla plain near Korem and Lake Ashenge, in the southern part of Tigray Province in the Ethiopian Empire. It pitted the forces of the Tigrayan nobleman Däggazmač Abraha Araya against those of Wagshum Abate Bwayalew, whom Emperor Menelik II had appointed overlord of Tigray, Wag and Lasta.
