Der Bürgerkrieg in Burundi war ein von Oktober 1993 bis 2005 andauernder ethnisch motivierter Konflikt zwischen der Tutsi-dominierten Armee und vor allem Hutu-dominierten Rebellengruppen. Hintergrund war die jahrzehntelange Vorherrschaft der Tutsi-Minderheit und wiederkehrende blutige Auseinandersetzungen mit der Bevölkerungsmehrheit der Hutu.
