Deception Island
Insel der Antarktis
Deception Island ist eine der Südlichen Shetlandinseln, einer subantarktischen Inselgruppe. Die Insel ist der Gipfelbereich eines vom Meeresgrund etwa 1500 m hoch aufragenden aktiven Vulkans; der bislang letzte Ausbruch fand im Jahr 1970 statt. Die Caldera bildet einen großen natürlichen Hafen.
