The ethnic cleansing of Georgians in Abkhazia, also known in Georgia as the genocide of Georgians in Abkhazia, began with the 1992–1993 Abkhazia war and continued through the 1998 Abkhazia war. During this period, Georgian people living in the Republic of Abkhazia were massacred and expelled by the Russian-backed Abkhazian Armed Forces.
