War in Democratic Republic of the Congo

Since December 2017, renewed war broke out between Lendu militias and Hema militias over land disputes in Ituri Province, Democratic Republic of the Congo. The uptick in violence came after ten years of peace between the Lendu and Hema after the First Ituri war between 1999 and 2003, a subset of the Second Congo War that devolved into the long-standing Ituri conflict.
