1270 battle of the Kaidu–Kublai war
The Battle of Herat was fought between the Ilkhanid forces of Abaqa Khan and the invading Chagatai forces of Ghiyas-ud-din Baraq on 22 July 1270. The battle marked the climax of a broader power struggle within the fractured Mongol Empire, as former allies and competing ulus contended for supremacy in the aftermath of the Toluid Revolution and the succession crisis.
