Negative advertisements paid by Trillanes targeting Rodrigo Duterte using unidentified children and another one about Duterte's alleged hidden wealth are aired on media outlets, causing uproar. A 72-hour TRO is issued by a court in Taguig to stop any TV stations from airing the advertisements.

Presidential campaign

The 2016 presidential campaign of Rodrigo Duterte was announced on November 21, 2015. Rodrigo Duterte, who was then serving as Mayor of Davao City, had refused to run and turned down other presidential and vice-presidential aspirants' offers to be his running mate, including that of Jejomar Binay, Miriam Defensor-Santiago and Bongbong Marcos. He was eventually elected President of the Philippines.
