キャッツアイ星雲

死にゆく恒星がおよそ 1,500 年ごとに放出したガスの殻で、内側の速い風が結び目やジェットを形作っています。知られている中で最も複雑な惑星状星雲の一つです。

画像はその距離に地球の方を向けて、空で見える大きさのまま掛けています。天体の奥行きは見えないため、平面です。

The Cat's Eye Nebula is a planetary nebula in the northern constellation of Draco, discovered by William Herschel on February 15, 1786. It was the first planetary nebula whose spectrum was investigated by the English amateur astronomer William Huggins, demonstrating that planetary nebulae were gaseous and not stellar in nature.
