The 2024 Madeira wildfires were a series of wildfires that began on August 14, 2024, on the Portuguese island of Madeira, 700 kilometres (430 mi) west of Morocco. The fire spread to at least five municipalities, devastating forest and rural areas. As of August 20, the flames had burned more than 5,700 hectares of forest, according to the European Forest Fire Information System.
