江戸時代末期、薩摩藩と大英帝国の間で勃発した戦争

薩英戦争 は、薩摩藩と大英帝国 （イギリス）の間で起こった戦闘である。文久2年8月21日（1862年9月14日）に武蔵国橘樹郡生麦村で発生した生麦事件の解決と補償を艦隊の力を背景に迫るイギリスと、主権統治権のもとに兵制の近代化で培った実力でこの要求を拒否し防衛しようとする薩摩藩兵が、鹿児島湾で激突した。
