SS Arctic disaster: The American paddle steamer Arctic sinks after a collision with the much smaller French ship Vesta, 50 miles (80 km) off the coast of Newfoundland, with approximately 320 deaths.
アークティック号沈没事故
アークティック号沈没事故 は、ニューヨーク市のコリンズ・ラインが所有する外輪式蒸気船のアークティック号が、1854年9月27日、ニューファンドランド島海岸沖50マイル で、自船よりかなり小さな船であるベスタ号と衝突した後に沈没した事件である。アークティック号の乗客および乗組員リストを見ると、おそらく400人以上が乗船していたが、その中で88人が生き残り、その大半が乗組員だった。乗船していた女性と子供は全て死亡した。
