During the weekend of July 4, 1999, white supremacist Benjamin Smith targeted ethnic and racial minorities, in a three-day drive-by shooting rampage in the U.S. states of Illinois and Indiana, after which he committed suicide. Smith was a member of the white supremacist World Church of the Creator.
