During the Council of Shirakavan representatives of the Armenian, Byzantine and West-Syrian Churches convenes to discuss church union. Though this is not achieved, an agreement is formulated which allows for the peaceful co-existence of Orthodox and non-Chalcedonians in the Byzantine-Armenian borderlands.

O Concílio de Xiracavã foi um concílio de união realizado entre a Igreja Ortodoxa, a Igreja Apostólica Armênia e a Igreja Siríaca de abril a outubro de 862 na cidade armênia de Xiracavã. O objetivo do concílio era buscar a unidade entre essas três Igrejas e esclarecer as posições cristológicas defendidas pela Igreja Apostólica Armênia e, em menor grau, pela Igreja Siríaca.
