The "rump" part of Poland after country was divided between the Soviet Union and Germany, the General Government was put under the control of Nazi lawyer Hans Frank. It became a dumping ground for undesirables and was victimized by mass violence.

The General Government, formally the General Governorate for the Occupied Polish Territories, was a German zone of occupation established after the invasion of Poland by Nazi Germany, Slovakia and the Soviet Union in 1939 at the onset of World War II.
