Tuzcuoğlu Rebellions
Series of uprisings in the Ottoman Empire (1814–1834)
The Tuzcuoğlu Rebellions were a series of uprisings that took place between 1814 and 1834 in the Ottoman provinces of Trabzon and Lazistan, along the southeastern Black Sea coast. The revolts were led by the Tuzcuoğlu family, a powerful local ayan family based in the Rize region, in opposition to Ottoman efforts to strengthen central authority and reduce the autonomy of regional derebeys and ayans.
