The harbour

The Index rates Ystad a small coastal harbour behind breakwaters. It lists ramps for roll-on, roll-off ships, dry bulk berths and general cargo berths there. It takes ships up to 106.9 m long, through a channel at least 6.4 m deep. It is about 82 km from the point where the map counts the ships going through the Danish Straits.

In 24 hours of AIS recorded Oct 12 – 19, the map heard only 6 ships within 10 km of Ystad: reception here is patchy, so most ships won’t show.

Good to know
