Kingdom of Hanover
19th-century state in the German Confederation
The Kingdom of Hanover was established in October 1814 by the Congress of Vienna, with the restoration of George III to his Hanoverian territories after the Napoleonic era. Its capital was Hanover and it also ruled Gottingen and Osnabruck. It had access to the North Sea, and bordered on the Netherlands and the free German cities of Hamburg and Bremen.
