The Treaty of Campo Formio was a peace treaty signed on 17 October 1797 between the French First Republic and Habsburg monarchy of Austria which ended the War of the First Coalition. France had been at war with Austria since 20 April 1792, when the French Legislative Assembly voted to declare war, which sparked the War of the First Coalition.
