The 1906 Valparaíso earthquake occurred on August 16 at 19:55 local time. Its epicenter was offshore of the Valparaíso Region of Chile, and its magnitude was estimated at 8.2 Mw. This earthquake occurred thirty minutes after an 8.35 Mw earthquake near the Aleutian Islands, Alaska.
