1888年に発生した磐梯山の噴火

1888年の磐梯山噴火（1888ねんのばんだいさんふんか）は、1888年（明治21年）7月15日に発生した磐梯山の噴火である。噴火に伴い山体崩壊が発生し、磐梯山を構成する成層火山の峰の一つであった小磐梯は全面的に崩壊し消滅した。そして北麓に岩屑なだれが流れ下り3つの集落が埋没した。その後、岩屑なだれは水分を含み泥流化して長瀬川流域に大きな被害を出した。更に磐梯山東麓を襲った火砕サージによる爆風、土石流によっても被害が出た。この噴火によって477名が死亡したとされ、これは明治以降の近代日本において最も多い犠牲者が発生した火山災害である。
