Earthquake off the coast of Aomori Prefecture, Japan

On 8 December 2025, at 23:15:10 JST, a Mw 7.6 earthquake struck in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Aomori Prefecture, Sanriku, Japan. The earthquake generated tsunamis that reached heights of up to 70 cm (28 in) along the coast of northern Japan.
