Open in 3DWhat it is
The greatest concentration of galaxies within a billion light-years, more than 8,000 of them, pulling on the Local Group from beyond the Great Attractor.
Placed by its redshift, at the distance the expansion has carried it to by now; the dots around it are galaxies of the 2MASS and SDSS surveys, placed the same way.

Shapley Supercluster
The Shapley Supercluster or Shapley Concentration is one of the largest concentrations of galaxies in the observable universe that forms a bound, gravitationally interacting unit, thereby pulling itself together instead of expanding with the universe. It appears as a striking overdensity in the distribution of galaxies in the constellation of Centaurus.
