Daily satellite images
NASA’s polar-orbiting satellites photograph the whole planet every day. This layer shows those images: yesterday’s by default, and any day back to February 2000.
What you see
- True-colour imagery from VIIRS on NOAA-20 from January 2018, and from MODIS on Terra back to 24 February 2000.
- Go back with History or Replay and the imagery follows the date.
Where the data comes from
- NASA GIBSGlobal Imagery Browse Services, NASA’s daily corrected-reflectance mosaics.
In live mode it shows yesterday (UTC), the latest complete day.
Good to know
- Stitched from passes made at different times of day, so seams and gaps between passes are normal.
- Detail stops at about zoom 9.
