Temperature map
Air temperature across the whole planet from NOAA’s global model, as a colour field with readings labelled, in °C or °F.
What you see
- A colour field of the temperature 2 metres above the ground.
- Readings labelled across the map; click one for the place and the value.
- Switch between °C and °F.
Where the data comes from
- NOAA GFSThe Global Forecast System on its 0.25° grid, read from Unidata’s THREDDS server.
- Open-MeteoA coarse grid shown while the GFS field loads, and the details when you click.
GFS runs every 6 hours with a forecast step every 3. The map shows the step nearest to now and checks for a newer one every 15 minutes.
Good to know
- Model values for the nearest forecast hour, not thermometer readings.
- Until GFS loads, a coarse Open-Meteo grid is interpolated, which smooths over mountains and coasts.
