Wind map
Wind 10 metres above the ground from NOAA’s global forecast model, drawn as streaks that move with it, so fronts and storms stand out at a glance.
What you see
- Moving streaks for the wind’s direction and strength.
- Click for the nearest grid point’s temperature, wind, gusts, recent rain and cloud.
Where the data comes from
- NOAA GFSThe Global Forecast System on its 0.25° grid, read from Unidata’s THREDDS server.
- Open-MeteoA coarse grid shown while the GFS field loads, and the details when you click.
GFS runs every 6 hours with a forecast step every 3. The map shows the step nearest to now and checks for a newer one every 15 minutes.
Good to know
- A forecast model, not measured wind.
- Local winds in valleys and between buildings are smoothed out at this scale.
